Australia not only offers new business opportunities it, also offers new business challenges in the way of dealing with a strong and existing staff culture which may be different to the migrant's culture as well as customer needs and communication which again may be different to the migrant's style of communication or culture. Quasar offer advisory services that help business migrants integrate successfully into Australian staff and business culture.
Many business leaders have found that managing and leading a team of people in Australia is much different to managing and leading a team of people in their country of origin. In these cases mistakes are made, staff are lost and so are long-standing customers and the business risks an ‘outsider reputation’.
Different staff and customer communication styles and expectations are not surprising as, simply put, cultures differ from country to country. It is no different when coming to Australia. It has been our experience that value systems can differ greatly even between migrants from English speaking countries. Smart business leaders acknowledge their need to adopt to ‘the local way’. Quasar’s Leadership Integration program helps both staff and management to deal with a potentially troublesome start to business leadership in Australia.
From the horse's mouth
"Australia is the preferred destination for thousands of South African emigrants. Why then do South African companies struggle Down Under? After all, they speak an almost intelligible form of English, have plenty of sunshine, are fond of cooking their meals on an open fire, and have produced more than their fair share of rugby players and cricketers. They also espouse the values that migrants seek.
Therein lies the problem, says former South African and Deloitte Australia CEO Giam Swiegers. "As soon as you think you see something that appears to be similar to how its done in South Africa, you know that you've just failed to spot the difference. We assume they are like us, so we go there in droves expecting to make a killing.”
However, too many South African corporates are caught short."
